With a Little Patience, ‘Leaving Bliss’ Has Arrived
by Jason Irwin on March 24th, 2009
Every once in a while a comedy sketch gives birth to a character, who whether by popular demand or creative need, grows beyond the sketch and takes on a life of its own.
Leaving Bliss is the story of Patience Owen, a naive 25 year-old girl who leaves her small hometown to pursue the dream of acting in Hollywood. Five episodes of the dramedy web series have been released with the fifth one bowing last Friday.
The series, from first time web series creator Shanna Micko, is well written and acted in its exploration of the themes of finding love and finding your place in life. Patience is played by writer-creator Micko, who is a graduate of the USC Professional Writing Masters program and does sketch comedy with Elders of the Dark Tower. Amongst a YouTube front-page feature and the buzz of David Lawrence from Heroes guest-starring in some future episodes, I sat down with Shanna to discuss the arrival of Leaving Bliss.

Small Town Girl ‘Leaving Bliss’ for Hollywood to Have Optimistic, Rubbing Time
February 10th, 2009 | Written by: Jake Weaver
What’s the deal with Bliss, Idaho, and why are we leaving it so soon? I think the answer is that there is no deal.
According to Patience Owen, Leaving Bliss‘ main character (played byShanna Micko), Bliss has a population of 275, “well 275 and 1/2. Peggy Johnson just had a baby girl!” The Wikipedia entry for Bliss (yes, it’s a real town) also show’s the population at 275. Someone’s been doing their homework!

A More Than Blissful Addition to the Web World
In my very rigorous boot camp www.kuttingweight.com I have had the opportunity to get mean and lean, and in doing so, have had even more fun getting to know some of my fellow campers also enduring the grueling workouts.
The therapeutic stretching after the running, squatting, lunging and weight lifting partners us with our fellow boot campers. This is how I met Shanna, pronounced Shaw-na, Micko, star of “Leaving Bliss.”
This absolutely hilarious tale of 25-year-old Patience Owen and her move to Hollywood to pursue stardom is now in its fifth episode and has a wildly growing audience thanks to its feature as the number one video on YouTube. Episode #1 had well over 100,000 hits in just a couple days.

Gettin’ Blitzed
By Paul Brighton on Monday, March 30, 2009

Every so often, an amazing character on the web or T.V. grabs us. These days It could be Ugly Betty, or Michael on “The Office.” But where are the great women comedians like Lucille Ball or Penny Marshall, who at the time, had no contemporaries, and left us wanting more week after week because we gave in to their character?
These characters have the ability to suspend the truth. And that’s precisely why “Leaving Bliss,” the new sketch comedy web series, has captured the hearts of so many YouTubers all over the globe. “Leaving Bliss” and Shanna Micko’s character Patience Owen provoke us to ask: could that person be acting? Is that really her? It’s so well-done, we willingly surrender to her character instantly and forget we’re watching an actor.

Leaving Bliss – Episode 1
Leaving Bliss, as of the middle of March 2009, is my current favorite webshow. The acting is surprisingly good for non-studio-produced content, and the humor is awkward and original. Shanna, the girl who plays Patience on the show, is very friendly and open to fan-suggested content. She is everything that network television should be and isn’t.
If you continue watching past the first episode, you’ll find yourself liking it more and more. I couldn’t be happier that people like Shanna continue to make content for no other reason than to make others laugh. It doesn’t hurt that she’s cute.

Leaving Bliss: The Blissfully Ignorant Interview
One cold, unforgiving day on the internet…Viking Lord and I trudged all the way to our respective keyboards to interview some plucky young web-content-superheroes. This…is their story.
TroubledYoungMan: VV would like to extend a very special welcome to the cast of Leaving Bliss (our new favorite web series, starring Shanna Micko, Brent Bailey, and Jordan St. Jean). Thank you guys for coming.
VikingLord: (to TYM)…They’re meeting us on the internet. I don’t know that that counts as them “coming” anywhere. They’re there, and we are here.
TroubledYoungMan: Shut up.
VikingLord: It has been decided by God that I ask the first question, along with all of the important ones. Shanna…will you go out with me?
Shanna: I assume by your moniker that you are the very large and powerful Nordic warrior type, which is typically what I look for in a man, but at this time I am spoken for. So, no.
TroubledYoungMan: (to VL) …Questions like that are the reason no one COMES to do interviews. ::Sigh:: (to Brent) Brent, you have to do a lot of topless scenes in the show. Has Shanna, or co-producer Steve Yager informed you of their intent to have Madison appear fully nude in future episodes? Because they told us in confidence that you will be appearing fully nude…
Brent: I knew I should have read the fine print! I think to keep our younger viewers onboard I probably should keep the pants on, but I have been notified that Madison might lose his shirt from time to time. Not to mention, if Patience walked in on Madison naked, I think she might have a nervous breakdown, and we can’t have that!

Indie web series’ always tend to have a little more heart than their big-budget counter parts. ‘Leaving Bliss,’ of course, no exception.
“I wrote, produced, casted, helped edit, created the website, etc… I’ve never felt so passionate about anything I’ve ever worked on,” says the series creator Shanna Micko.
Shanna plays the lead character Patience Owen, a sweet drama dork who leaves her small hometown for big Hollywood dreams. However, the inner city cut-throat world of acting proves to be much harder than her high school drama teacher ever told her.
