Another Day of ShootingPosted on August 14th, 2008 @ 6:25 pm
Yesterday was an eventful day for us!
We shot lots of scenes in about five hours. Here are some pics!

Director Steve Yager and good friend/boom operator Greg Kaczynski

Stevie Allen as “Deb”

Ian as “Arnie” and Jordan St. Jean as “Roxanne”

All the peeps in Bliss, hanging out in the Western Room

Director Steve hard at work. Note the awesome horseshoes on the wall!

Little Arnie with Begonia’s flask. Tsk tsk.

Angela McEwan as “Begonia” and Shanna Micko as “Patience”
Shooting went great again. Everyone on my team is so wonderful and reliable and easy to work with, it makes my job as producer/actor a million times easier. Seriously, our actors are so so talented!! A big thanks to everyone for their time and talent yesterday. And a HUGE thank you to Emilie, who so graciously loaned us her house for the day, and to her father, Flick, both of whom were so wonderfully welcoming to our cast and crew.
I truly love and appreciate everyone who has given of themselves to be a part of this project.

Begonia’s 80th Birthday partyPosted on August 12th, 2008 @ 8:07 am
Yesterday we shot some scenes from episode two that take place at Begonia’s Birthday party. It was a fun day full of great acting, super directing, lovely weather, and a million unexpected noises that delayed our progress. Who knew that at one small neighborhood park you would hear ALL of the following?!
-gigantic lawn mowers
-smaller, faster lawn mowers
-weed whackers
-hammering
-electric saws
-dogs barking
-airplanes
-babies crying
-a semi-truck
-the ice cream man
-wind
Oh, and this wasn’t at the park, but an ear-piercing fire alarm plagued us at our first location. Luckily we weren’t there for long.
Aside from the noise (which really was only a small problem considering all the other things that could have gone wrong with shooting guerrilla in a public park), things went great, and I’m very excited about the footage.
In particular, Gene Zahn as Barry was spot-on perfect. And so was Jordan St. Jean as Roxanne. It’s incredible to see actors portraying characters almost exactly as I had envisioned them in my head as I wrote them.
We still have a couple days of shooting left, so edited episodes won’t be done for another couple weeks. But for now, here are some pics from yesterday’s shoot.

“I made this sign!”

More casting, more shootingPosted on August 8th, 2008 @ 4:07 pm
Today we held auditions for the part of Arnie, my character’s 5-year-old nephew. The little boys that came in to read were super duper cute and shier than I thought they’d be. But one kid had the spunk we were looking for. His name is Ian, and our favorite thing he said when we were talking with him was, “T-ball! I’m into it!” Soooooo cute!
We have lots of shooting planned for the upcoming week. The house location is secured for Wednesday, thanks to Laura’s friend Emilie, and we’re going guerrilla style in the park on Monday.
More pictures to follow soon!
