So, last night’s table read was a success! Everyone read their parts when they were supposed to! Woohoo. Kudos to our smart friends.

But aside from that, it was a success in that people seemed to enjoy reading the scripts. It was fun for me to see where people laughed because a big reason for having the table read was to see if the humor was effective. I have to pause here and give some props to Steve who has been invaluable in helping me make my scripts funnier. Working with him is even helping me to think funnier!

It was VERY fun for me to see my characters come to life. I love that things in my head can come to life and be even more awesome with another person’s creative interpretation. And this was just a table read! I can’t wait till we can cast these parts and see what people do with them. Thank you, thank you, to all our friends who gave their time to help me out and did an awesome job while they were at it.

In particular, I was impressed with the following:

Adam’s smooth, controlled narrating skillzzz!

Melli’s line of the night – “Frickin Bitchin”!

Alli’s angry deadpan Grandma Begonia!

Nic’s uber hip, too-cool-for-school makeup artist Symphony!

Giselle’s awesome Mexican accent!

Katherine’s crack whore mother’s insincere plea to her daughter – “I heart you!”

The rapport between John as the porn producer Rex and Adam as the porn director Rex!

Dirk’s great interpretation of Troy, the sleazebag neighbor, which is about as against type as I could have gotten.

And finally,

Steve’s bringing Madison to life in a very real and sincere way, which is what I was really hoping for.

Great job everyone! And thank you for all of your feedback and comments. I can’t wait to fix up the scripts and get going on this thing. We plan to shoot the first episode as a pilot and see if we can’t get a lil bit o cash to shoot the rest. How awesome would that be???

I’ll be working to set all this up in the near future. So…. more to come soon!

Leaving Bliss Table Read

Here’s the inaugural post for the Leaving Bliss blog. Shanna and I are producing this web series together and I wanted to surprise her with a blog. She’s the creator and writer for this series, and I know she’d love to blog about the progress of this show.

My intention is for us to keep a record of everything we do here with Leaving Bliss so that once it becomes a hit web series, there will be fun stuff for the fans to discover. And the hardcore fans can even say that they’ve been following the blog since way-back-when. And then we will reward them, monetarily and carnally.

Tonight we’re having our first table read for Leaving Bliss. We’ve got our smart and talented friends over. Some smart, some talented, none both. Boom, OH!
We are going to take a look at the first seven episodes and get feedback. It’ll also be great to hear the scripts out loud. I fully intend on taking pictures, maybe some video. We’ll see if that happens.
